Allegro con Brio: Symphony no. 2

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 7:20 AM Comments comments (1)

After having finished the 2nd, 3rd and 4th movement of my second symphony, all that is left is the first movement: Allegro con brio. The piece is written, based as it is on my 1st piano sonata so it's a matter of orchestrating it what is actually not always that difficullt because I knw how I want it to be. The most time goes into figureing out where what goes.

This morning I worked on the 1st theme in the exposition of the Allegro, finished the strings, woodwinds and brass. Tomorrow I will start orchestrating the second theme what will be a mix of all solo woodwinds, aksing for attention one by one, expressing the 2nd theme.

Scherzo for piano four hands.

Just finished the recording of the Scherzo of my second symphony. Today i am going to start making an arrangement from this same Scherzo for piano 4 hands. I wrote a nice piano solo part for this in the past that I never used and why waste good notes? Let's see where it goes.

Scherzo: Allegro e Agitato - 2nd Symphony part 3

Last week I started with recording the 3rd movement, the Scherzo, of my Second Symphony, the "Laura Lee". Today I finished recording all the string parts and now are working on the woodwinds. Good sounding results!

Dolce e cantabile - 2nd movement, 2nd symphony

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 3:45 AM Comments comments (2)

Started the recording of the Dolce e cantabile today. Needs a lot of fine tuning but that will come later after I finished recording the whole piece. I use the Sonivox Complete Orchestral Collection for this. This piece needs a solo violin and solo viola as well, something the Sonivox collection doesn't has, so I am pulling them from the Kontakt 4 version of Vienna. Little bit disappointed by their sounds...

2nd Symphony - movement 4: Allegro con fuoco

For the last year I am working on recording my 2nd symphony in Logic 9 Studio. I finished the 2nd and 4th movement which you can hear here:

http://www.andrevanharen.com/newmusic.htm

This morning I recorded the A section (Theme 1) for all instruments (woodwinds, strings and brass). I am very happy with the results without even having to do much adjusting or editing work. Of course I will still have to work on the volume mix but this is something I will save till the end, after having recorded all the instruments of the whole piece.

This is the first time I work with my new software package: Complete Symphonic Collection by Sonivox, an unbelievable great present from Richard Schletty, a good friend of mine from America. The results are so much better than the recordings that I made with other orchestral software. Probably I will rerecord all my music with this new software when I can find the time for that. My goal for now, however is to finish this symphony. (I still have to orchestrate the 1st movement!)

Rewriting music for cello and piano

Posted on April 5, 2009 at 4:32 PM Comments comments (1)

After finishing my latest piece, "A Searching Child", for piano solo and for violin and piano ( piano solo: A searching child
piano and violin: A Searching child ), I decided to have a look again at my cello and piano arrangements of my piano "moments". I already made versions of some of the Moment pieces for this duo but now I have found musicians who really seem to like them, I have decided to rework all the movements .

Here again are the seperate movements of "moments" for piano:

1. After work, in the night

2. Cat's play

3. A midday nap

4. At work

5. Who's there?

6. Goodnight - There he goes!

And here they are for violin and piano:

1. After work, in the night - Played by Matthew Weiss, violin, and Bill Clarke, piano.

2. Cat's play - recorded on my mac...

3. A midday nap - recorded on my mac...

4. At work - recorded on my mac...

5. Who's there? - recorded on my mac...

6. Goodbye - There he goes! - recorded on my mac...

And here are some of them for orchestra, I still need to finishe the other movements:

1: After work, late at night
2: Cat's play
6: Goodnight

For cello... coming soon!

Have a nice day! :D
